Acupuncture

This effective and natural therapy originated in China at least 3000 years ago. Acupuncture aims to restore and maintain health through the stimulation of specific points on the body. The World Health Organization states acupuncture is suitable for dozens of diseases.

Acupuncture is among the oldest healing practices in the world and is still popular nowadays. Since April 2008, acupuncture is added as a supplementary benefit for MSP premium assistance recipients in B.C. Eligible B.C. residents with a low combined family income will receive $23 per visit for a maximum combined 10 visits of supplementary benefits. Patients are only covered for visits with practitioners registered by the College of Chinese Medicine and Acupuncturists of British Columbia (CTCMA).

Acupressure Massage

Acupressure is an ancient Chinese healing method used to cure many common ailments. It is a technique related to acupuncture. It involves applying pressure to certain points throughout the body to relieve pain and promote good health. Performed by an Acupressure Therapist, it is relatively painless. There are many techniques in acupressure and some training is required to master acupressure.

Reflexology

Reflexology is the physical act of applying pressure to the feet and hand with specific thumb, finger and hand techniques without the use of oil or lotion. It is based on a system of zones and reflex areas that reflect an image of the body on the feet and hands with a premise that such work effects a physical change to the body.

Cupping

Cupping is an ancient therapy used by Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) doctors. The technique of cupping involves heating the inside of a specially designed glass cup and placing it on the skin of a patient. As the air inside of the cup cools it creates suction on the skin allowing the glass to stay on the skin. Cupping has been said to feel like a reverse massage where instead of pressure being felt from the outside pressing in, the pressure feels like it has been applied from the inside out. Cupping often leaves slight mark on the skin but is not painful. The mark will disappear in couple of days.

Facial Rejuvenation

Also known as cosmetic acupuncture, Facial Rejuvenation acupuncture is a virtually painless, non-surgical method of reducing the signs of the aging process. The technique uses acupuncture to erase years off of the face. Based on the principles of Chinese Medicine, it helps the whole body look and feel younger by addressing the physical, mental and emotional patterns that cause disease and contribute to the aging process. The principle of Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture is that beauty comes from within. If you are aging in a way that looks and feels unhealthy then it is possible that there is a fundamental, constitutional imbalance that is causing you to age in the ways that you are. When balance is restored, you will feel and look more radiant.

Moxibustion

Moxibustion is a Traditional Chinese Medicine technique that applies the stimulation of warmth and heat to the acupoints and meridians. Moxibustion has been used in China for thousands of years. In fact, the actual Chinese character for acupuncture,
针灸, translated literally, means “acupuncture-moxibustion”. When a disease fails to respond to herbal medicine and acupuncture, moxibustion is suggested.
